Kaindy Lake — a walk through the underwater forest.

Kaindy Lake is one of the most visited places in the Almaty region, as well as one of the most bewitching and “photogenic”.
Why? Just imagine: the turquoise surface of the lake is surrounded on all sides by dense firs of the Zailiysky Alatau. But the most incomparable detail of this place is in the firs that do not surround the lake, but are in it!

Surely, you are interested in learning the history of such an unusual natural phenomenon. In fact, there is nothing mysterious in the history of the formation of the lake, but it sounds very dramatic. In 1911, the slopes of Zailisky and Kungey Alatau shuddered at the Kemin earthquake, which lasted about five minutes and exceeded 8 points in strength! Deep cracks formed in the mountains, resulting in numerous landslides and landslides. One of such landslides blocked the river. With no way out, water began to flood the coniferous forest growing there. So there was Lake Kaindy.

Of course, in any other place the trees would have begun to rot long ago, but the temperature of Lake Kaindy even in summer does not rise above 6 degrees Celsius, which helps the trees to maintain their former appearance. By the way, initially the spruce trees were completely under water, but a little later the mudflow destroyed the dam and the water level dropped by 10 meters, exposing the tops of the trees, which subsequently dropped their foliage under the influence of the sun and winds.

Thousands of divers come here every year to take a walk along the preserved (!) Forest paths and touch the branches that have not seen the sun for more than a hundred years.

The lake is located on the northern slope of the Kungei-Alatau gorge, at an altitude of 1867 m.

How to get there?

The lake is located 300 km from Almaty. To get to it by car:

— Drive about 190 km along the Kuldzhinsky tract
— In front of Saty village turn left

-the road is heavy for a car and therefore it is better to hire a special transport, as a rule, this is a UAZ loaf that will lift you to the lake
— At the entrance you will need to pay the eco-collection
— if you have a jeep or crossover, the road will not be difficult for you.

It is amazing what scenic spots can be at such an affordable distance. On the shore of Lake Kaindy you can set up a campground or use the guest house in the village of Saty. Tourism infrastructure is well developed here!
