Turgen Gorge is one of the most popular tourist routes in the Almaty region. This place is popular due to its relatively close proximity to the city and insane beauty.
The Turgen River flows high in the mountains of Zailiysky Alatau, surrounded by dense green spruces, washing the coast of the Turgen Gorge with its waters. This place is considered one of the most picturesque places of Zailiysky Alatau. However, it is popular not only because of its landscapes, but also due to a number of interesting places that can be visited on the way to the gorge – trout farm, ostrich farm, a huge statue of the Golden Man and Chinturgen fir-trees with a centuries-old layer of permafrost.
How to get to the Turgen gorge?
The picturesque gorge can be reached in two ways:
along the Kuldzhinsky and along the Talgar highway.
The road along the Kuldzhinsky highway.
– Drive along Ryskulov Avenue and turn left onto Kuldzhinsky Trakt
– Follow the Kuldzhinsky highway for another 31 km.
– Follow the direction to Issyk.
– Drive through the city of Issyk
At the intersection, turn right onto the road leading to the Turgen Gorge.
– In a couple of km there will be an ecopost. Entrance costs about 400 tenge per person.
After 0.7 km, you will find the picturesque spring of Kiela-Bulak and the statue of the Golden Man, and after another 2 km trout farm
– having passed the trout farm in 10 km there will be the first Bear Falls
– another 8 km behind the village of Batan, turn right and begin hiking on the Kairak Waterfall!
Upon reaching the Turgen Gorge, first of all, you should visit Bear Falls. It is located just one kilometer from the highway and is very easy to reach. Then you can visit the second of the waterfalls – Kairaksky. Having turned to the Chinturgen gorge, you can get to the Chinturgen spruce forests. Here, tall spruce trees grow on a layer of moss, which hides underneath the thickness of melting ice. Through the thick branches of fir trees, sunlight hardly penetrates here. On the way to the Turgen Gorge, there is also the opportunity to visit the largest trout farm in Kazakhstan and a huge ostrich farm.
