The mountains of Aktau and Katutau, which we told you about in previous articles, are not the only natural landmark in Kazakhstan that has a bewitching Martian landscape! The mountains of Boguty have the same species.
The Boguty mountains are located east of the city of Almaty and are the easternmost part of the Zailiysky Alatau ridge. The Boguts are divided into two large massifs — Ulken Boguty and Bala Boguty. Both massifs are located in a picturesque place — between the two rivers Charyn and Chilik.
This place has two unique features.
Firstly, to get to the mountains, you do not need to climb anywhere. On the contrary, they need to go down the steppe. You can understand this only by seeing!
Secondly, the history of these mountains begins with a real active volcano. Despite the fact that the volcano was active in ancient times, today it is still reminded of frozen lava flows, blocks of petrified volcanic ash and real basalt.
The fauna here is quite rich. Here you can even find animals listed in the Red Book — mountain sheep, foxes, hares, cupcakes and partridges. But the flora has only a few species of shrubs and grasses.
How to get to the Boguty mountains?
We need a track to Hargos! You can go to it on the Strasse to Taldykurgan.
We pass by the town of Chilik which is located 130 km
And after about 65 km from the city of Chilik, you need to turn south towards the mountains.
Moving along the dried riverbed, after 10 km you will find yourself on the spot!
